More Trucking Coverages

Other coverages we can quote for trucking companies, depending on how you operate.

Non-trucking liability

For trucks leased to another motor carrier. It covers liability when the truck is used for personal, non-business purposes and is not under dispatch.

Trailer interchange

Covers damage to trailers you do not own while they are in your possession under a written trailer interchange agreement.

Hired and non-owned auto

Covers your liability for vehicles you hire, rent or borrow, and for employees using their own vehicles for your business.

Uninsured and underinsured motorist, medical payments

Protects you and your drivers when the other driver is at fault and has little or no insurance. What is available depends on your state.

Rental reimbursement

Pays a daily amount toward a rental truck while yours is being repaired after a covered loss.

Occupational accident

For owner-operators who are not covered by workers compensation. Pays medical bills, lost income and disability benefits if you are hurt on the job. Many motor carriers require it before they lease you on.

Workers compensation

Required in most states once you have employees. Covers medical bills and lost wages for employees hurt at work, including drivers on your payroll.

Excess and umbrella liability

Extra liability limits on top of your primary auto liability. Many shippers and brokers now ask for more than $1,000,000, and one serious accident can go well past it.

Excess cargo

Higher cargo limits for the loads that need them, such as electronics, alcohol or other high-value freight, without raising the limit on every load.

Contingent cargo and contingent liability

For brokers and carriers that broker out loads. Responds when the carrier that hauled the load has no coverage or its insurer denies the claim.

Garage keepers

Covers customers’ vehicles in your care at your shop or yard, for example when you repair, store or tow them.

Warehouse legal liability

Covers goods you store for others in your warehouse or yard if they are lost or damaged while in your care.

Bonds

Freight broker BMC-84 bonds, permit and license bonds, and other bonds trucking companies need to operate.

This is a general description, not a policy. What is covered depends on the terms, limits and exclusions of the policy that is issued.
